Hi, I am Captain Dave. I thought you might like to know a little about me and "Wallace Sailing Charters" before you make your decision on finding a sailing adventure you will enjoy.I started "Wallace Sailing Charters" in the spring of 1999. I had worked in the automotive industry for 15 years and also at night as a musician. In my late thirties, I decided to quit the automotive industry and go to college full time, taking classes during the day, and continuing to play music at night. My intention was to eventually apply to medical school to be a physical therapist.

After two years, I did not get accepted, so I continued as a full time musician. I was dissatisfied with where my future was taking me and kept thinking of how nice it would be to live on a boat and get away from the rat race most of us live in. I tried for two years to get financial backing to buy a boat and open a charter business. I was not successful at all and became discouraged, but I did not give up. I put photos up all around my house, of the finest sailing yachts I thought I might be able to afford, to keep me motivated toward my goals.

Still unable to get a loan for a yacht, it finally dawned on me to at least go ahead and get my captain's license. This was a fairly easy thing to do since I had been driving a boat with my Dad since I was old enough to walk, and owned my own little 8 foot rowboat when I was in fifth grade. I only needed to pass all the USCG exams. A few months later, I got my first job as a captain in Georgetown, SC. After a year, I finally got the loan on my 40 foot Beneteau sailboat, and was extremely proud of my new sailing yacht! Now, where to start my business? I looked up and down the Myrtle Beach area for a marina and a good place to sail. I settled on Cricket Cove Marina in North Myrtle Beach. I loved taking my guests sailing. If you only knew how happy I was. Finally, my own business! I was in control of my destiny and doing what I have always loved, but there were still some problems to overcome.

Although life now was a lot better than it had been, I still had a lot of work to do to achieve my goals, and the biggest challenge was my location. North Myrtle Beach was great, but it had its downfalls. It was about a 5 mile motor, or 40 minutes on the waterway to get to the ocean where I could finally put up the sails! On the weekends, it was packed full of jet-skis and other boats. It was so crowded it took away the enjoyment for me of going out in the boat and getting away from the crowds of Myrtle Beach. I also found that once I got to the ocean and started sailing, the weather would change, and many customers would find themselves getting seasick from rough waves and swells. In this location, it was impossible to make every sail a perfect trip for my guests, so things had to change. In January of 2000, we moved "Wallace Sailing Charters" from North Myrtle Beach to Georgetown.

It was the best thing we ever did! We have 13 miles of protected bay to sail in, on the way to the ocean, and if the wind comes up too strong during our trips, the water still does not get rough. I have never had anyone get seasick in the bay. We also have miles of waterway, wide enough to sail in, if we decide to sail north on the intracoastal waterway instead of southeast towards the ocean inlet. I see eagles almost every day, as well as pelicans and osprey flying by while we are sailing. Starting in May and throughout the summer months, we are likely to see an alligator swimming near the boat in the early morning or near sunset, and pods of dolphin and large sturgeon fish jumping out of the water. Fortunately, even on the weekends here, there is very little boat traffic on the water.

It is a sailors paradise right here in the Myrtle Beach area. So if you are looking for fun things to do on your Myrtle Beach vacation, come sail with me. If you have never been on a sailboat before, and if you like the water and nature, I promise you, I will make you have a very comfortable and pleasant trip. All our sailing cruises are private! Your party can consist of as few as one, or as many as six people, all for one price, and well behaved children are always welcome. I will try to cater to your every whim and need. Bring whatever you want to snack on and drink. It is your time to have fun away from all the other vacationers. Before the cruise, I like to spend a little time talking with my future guests so I can give them the experience they want. My entire goal is to share with you the enjoyment I get every time I sail.

Some of my guests lie out on the deck to get some sun, while others like to be at the helm and help pilot the yacht. Some like to sail offshore and experience the ocean, and others want to go to a private beach and collect seashells, or simply a sunset sail with a bottle of wine. We have it all right here just a short drive south of Myrtle Beach. Give us a call and let's see if we can help you have a perfect day on the water during your Myrtle Beach vacation. By the end of this summer of 2013, I hope to finally have the yacht paid for.

Except for sailing to more distant destinations, my dreams will have come true.  I owe it all to people like you who have sailed with me for the past 14 years, to make "Wallace Sailing Charters" a success. You are the ones who made it happen for me and that is why each and every one of you are so important to me. I will always do my best to give you the best sailing experience possible. I am looking forward to meeting and sailing with you.
